  Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office

In accordance with the school’s Mission to provide a quality legal education to both traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds, UWLA’s Financial Aid Office seeks to offer students a variety of affordable options to pay for their legal education and make UWLA an affordable law school in California:

Scholarships and Grants

The Financial Aid Office administers several merit-based university scholarships and awards such as the New Student (LSAT) Scholarship, Faculty Merit Scholarships, Endowed Scholarships, and Institutional Scholarships in addition to providing information about and assistance with other private scholarships and grants.
Because scholarships and grants don’t need to be repaid, we encourage students to exhaust all of these available options before turning to other types of financial assistance.

Student Employment

The Financial Aid Office assists students with part-time employment through the Federal Work Study (FWS) Program.  On-campus positions are regularly available. The FWS program is an excellent way for students to offset their education costs while still benefiting from interaction with university students and faculty.  We can also direct students to other employment services not part of the FWS Program.

Private Educational Loans

Private Educational Loans are used to fund the remaining portion of a student’s tuition not covered by other types of financial aid.  Because these loans can be very expensive and depend on a student’s credit-worthiness (as defined by the financial institution), UWLA’s Financial Aid Office works with a number of private lenders to assist the student in finding the most affordable option. We also offer assistance, including contacting the lender and certifying the loan, to students pursing private education loans on their own.
