Why UWLA?
Choosing a law school can be a difficult decision, but UWLA has been the right choice for thousands of students. We understand that success in our Los Angeles law school depends on many factors: the students’ potential, their commitment to achieve, the support they receive from friends and family, the qualification and competency of their instructors, financial stability, a well-designed curriculum, access to the resources they need and the encouragement and support of mentors.
Our admission practices, programs and classes, curriculum, Academic Support, and campus resources are innovative and are continually assessed so that we continue to meet our students’ needs and exceed their expectations. Here’s how:
Admission
Our admission practices are designed to assess a student’s ability to achieve. Only students who demonstrate the potential to succeed and who we believe will be committed to that success will be admitted.
To demonstrate potential, students must attain a satisfactory score on the LSAT, and possess a Bachelor’s Degree, an Associate’s Degree (with qualifications), or qualify for Special Student status. Applicants who do not meet these criteria but who believe they can demonstrate potential may qualify for our performance program.
We also offer January, June, and August admission dates.
Contact our Admission Office to learn more about the application process and to reserve a spot at one of our upcoming Information Seminars. Call 310-342-5210 for more information.
Attain Your Goals
UWLA offers both full-time programs for students who can devote all their time to studies and part-time programs for those who have significant work and/or family responsibilities. These programs are designed to offer students the flexibility they need to achieve while still completing the degree in a reasonable amount of time.
We’ve maximized individual attention in our classes by keeping the numbers small. Students receive extensive and meaningful interaction with faculty, who are highly qualified and in many cases are practicing attorneys or sitting judges. Grading of student exams is consistent with the Committee of Bar Examiners standards.
Curriculum
The School of Law’s curriculum has been carefully selected to challenge students and prepare them for the bar exam and a professional career. It emphasizes the development of writing skills and balances substantive course work with practice-oriented courses such as Lawyering Skills Practicum, and the Externship program -- as well as independent study opportunities, internships, and moot court.
Academic Support and Campus Resources
- Our Academic Support Program (ASP) is a hands-on, innovative partnership between students, faculty, and administrators designed to address and support each student's individual needs and optimize her academic performance.
- A library and computer lab facilitates research and gives students the resources they need to prepare for papers, presentations, and exams. Online study aids such as the Academic Support program (Pass), Westlaw, and CALI are easily accessible.
- Two convenient campus locations to save time and ease transportation headaches: San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles near the Los Angeles airport.
- A Financial Aid office dedicated to helping students find the financial resources they need to obtain their goals. Highly qualified applicants are eligible for a scholarship program to offset up to 50% of the tuition, and private education loans and student employment opportunities are available.
Accreditation
The School of Law has been continuously accredited since 1978 by the Committee of Bar Examiners of The State Bar of California. This California law school accreditation exempts regularly admitted UWLA students from the requirement to sit for the First-Year Law Students’ Examination (commonly referred to as the Baby Bar).
