Financial Aid
Looking for private loans?
Alternative loans are available for students who are in need of addition funding after they have exhausted all other options such as grants, scholarships and federal loans or for students who are not eligible for federal loans.
Loan approval is generally based on creditworthiness and your ability to repay. Alternative loans are available to students who are enrolled and are pursuing a degree at UWLA. We recommend for our students to carefully consider if a loan is needed, the amounts they are borrowing as these are loans that must be repaid, and factor in the interest rate. Things to consider:
• Only borrow what you need to limit your borrowing amounts
• Explore all options such as payment plans, scholarships and federal loans
• Avoid deceptive student loan offers
How to apply
To apply for an alternative loan, the student or parents of dependents must complete and submit a loan application to the private lender(s). The lender must be provided with the loan amount that is being requested and the loan period when completing the loan application. The amount a student may request up to the cost of attendance which includes tuition, fees, books, and amounts allowed for room and board, food, and miscellaneous minus any financial aid the student is receiving which includes scholarships, grants and loans.
Students loan disbursements for private loans will follow the financial aid disbursement schedule. For the school of law, loans are disbursed 30 days after the start of the semester.
Please note a private education loan applicant self-certification form will be required due to the Truth in lending Act of 2009. Your lender will provide you with this form. For more information, please visit the links below.
