President
We celebrate 50 years as a University that was started by several Culver City high school teachers, who believed that graduate and law school should be accessible and affordable for all, and especially for those who have to work while pursuing this education. Their foresight is equally applicable to our society today and is still an important component of UWLA’s strategic mission. In that time, we have produced CEOs, Lawyers, Judges and Business leaders. Our mission is, and has always been, to provide quality, challenging, affordable education to men and women from diverse backgrounds, who seek not only the theoretical understanding of their fields but who also desire a strong practical capability. As we move into the next 50 years, what is the vision for UWLA? We have now instituted a new School of Business which will feature a school of graduate studies and a new bachelor’s degree in business. After such a long and distinguished history in the legal education arena, we felt that to branch out to the field of business education would be the natural compliment to our educational model. I am very excited about the future of UWLA. In addition to diversifying into the area of business education, we will also seek to expand internationally with our educational offerings. We are developing strategic relationships with many universities and colleges throughout the world. The future of education is international, and our students will benefit from these relationships. Our students will benefit from having the opportunity to experience cultures in different parts of the world and learning how their education is applicable to improving the legal and business environments globally. In the future, with the dominance of technology innovating and pervading every aspect of our lives, leaders and managers of our workforces must be prepared to deal and compete effectively with other leaders, managers and entrepreneurs from cultures all over the world. It is our job at UWLA to prepare our students for this undertaking. We believe that we are ideally suited for the task. I hope that you will be proud to be a member of our educational community. Our institution prides itself on a small culture and learning experience where the student is valued and the relationship between the university and student is much more intimate while at the same time being very competitive and challenging. So if that type of educational environment sounds conducive to your learning desires, then UWLA might be the place for you. Please consider our programs for your learning experience. They were designed for the student who are more interested in the quality of their learning experience than the brand name of other institutions. We are comfortable that the UWLA brand has been around for the past 50 years and that our model has lent itself to preparing outstanding men and women to be leaders in their fields. I am confident and it is my vision that UWLA will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Robert W. Brown President of The University of West Los Angeles |
