Prof. Steve Zand

Biography: Steve S. Zand received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Northridge, in Business Administration. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from University of La Verne, College of law, in 1989. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1989. He is also a Certified family Law Specialist, Certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, U.S. District Court, Central California, and U.S. Court of Appeal, 9th Circuit. He was selected as a Super Lawyer. He became an adjunct professor of law at the University of La Verne, College of Law, in 1997. He then became the Dean of Students at University of La Verne, College of Law, at the San Fernando Valley campus, in 1999. He is currently the Faculty Chair and a full-time Professor of Law at University of West Los Angeles, College of Law. He was the Professor of the Year in 1999, 2005, and 2015. He has taught courses in Community Property, Advanced Community property, Family Law, Torts, and Lawyering Skills Practicum. He has been an Instructor at California State Bar certified Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Programs. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tem, hearing family law matters and as a Court Appointed Family Law Mediator. He was a Candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1996. He was the first president and one of the founding members and of Iranian-American Lawyers Association, an affiliate of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department, Police Commission, as the Chairperson of the Permit Review Panel in 2001, and served until 2006. He currently serves as a reserve Captain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He has been selected as a Super Lawyer and his legal articles have been published by the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine and the Family Law News, State Bar of California. He is the recipient of the Justice Bernard Jefferson Award of Excellence. He has received commendations from Governor of State of California, Speaker of the California State Assembly, Chair of the County of Los Angeles, Board of Supervisors, Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, and Mayor of County of Los Angeles.
